However, I would assume that since LaserWriter driver 5.2 was written before TrueType was a glimmer in Apple's eye that in order for the printer to process it, it must be running LaserWriter 6.0 or later, although I could be wrong. In that hypothetical case, a LaserPrinter would depend on the computer to provide the 300 dpi bitmap with drivers before 6.0...
