We are now running USR V.32/v.32bis modems
via a 9600 baud conditioned leased line
over a distance of around 180 miles 
and ftp throughput on text runs around 3.5 kb/sec while binary transfers
are running around 1.6 kb/sec.

We are running stock ISC SLIP (as supplied with 2.21) with the DTE ports
locked at 38400 baud on each machine.
