A note from a Signetics engineer in Technical Correspondence or Hints & Kinks in QST within the past year or two mentioned in passing that the NE612 was a lower-performance version of the NE602. If you look carefully at the data sheets, you'll notice that the NE612 has lower gain (figure 11 on both sheets), by about 4 dB. Keep a look-out for the NE602A, which has an improved intercept point.
