I received several helpful replies from various sources, including Oracle. I now have a few possible solutions to examine; when the time presents itself. Due to the complexity of explaining how to do this, my intention is to provide the answer via e-mail to those who are interested. I have already promised follow-ups to several people and will mail them my findings. If others are interested in getting some pointers and some source code for handling this situation, please drop me a line and I will add you to the list. Thanks to all who replied to the original message. -- -dave bonnett- Center for Seismic Studies; Arlington, VA bonnett@seismo.css.gov : All standard disclaimers apply.
