I was attempting to edit a 8.5 MB file on an IBM/RS600 runing gnu emacs 
18.57 and got the message maximum buffer size exceeded. Is there a way
to extend the maximum buffer size? I was able to edit a 4 MB file.

Also I was able to edit the big file on a sun running version 18.55.
