Thanks to every one. I got more than ten answer, all very interesting.
In fact, davew@cs.UMD.EDU have allready explain the main problem for the net.

I just have to add the remark of mittle@watson.ibm.com. He explains
that both versions compile and run correctly under ATT C++ 2.1
