If I press CTRL-D to get the "send, ..." prompt and then press "s" quickly (as if I had type ahead), mush then appears to hang although the process to actually do the sending has already started. Sometimes I can recover, sometimes I cannot and have to have the process killed. While I am aware that type-ahead is not a Un*x feature, the above action (i.e. quick typing of commands) seems a reasonable day-to-day scenario. This has happened on HP-UX (6.6 and 7.0) and SunOS (4.1) systems.
