I have created a device driver for the Adaptec 1540/42 SCSI controllers.
It is not without limititations, but nothing that couldn't easily be
changed.  Currently it suffers from the following restrictions:

    - Only two drives are check for SCSI id's 0 and 1.
    - Logical block size of connected drives must be 512 bytes.
    - Limited error reporting.  Errors are detected, but no
      specific information is noted.

If you are interested in this driver let me know.  Warning it is not
for the inexperienced.  Installing the driver requires patches to kernel
sources.
