Drive mechanism was busted. So I returned it for another one which was also busted. The way the stock room was handling them (I could see through a window when I got the second one) its no wonder. They didn't seem to realize a disk drive is more delicate than a basketball. So, I drove 45 minutes out of my way to the only Commodore dealer left in the state of Arizona who sells C-64 stuff and got a working 1581. I love it.
