Michael) Newsgroups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware Subject: ibm-pc portable Keywords: trying to add hard drive Message-ID: <1991Apr12.023334.5658@uncecs.edu> Date: 12 Apr 91 02:33:34 GMT Distribution: usa Organization: UNC Educational Computing Service Lines: 17 i have a friend that has an ibm-pc portable (you know , a pc with wheels). i have added memory to 640 and that seems to work ok. she bought an seagate 225 (20 meg) hard drive and wants to install it in bay 2. i have a controller (wd) that i just took out of one of my machines because i went rll. it was hooked up to a seagate 225 and worked without a hitch for several years. I can't get the machine to recognize it though. i get a 1701 error on boot. the manual states that the system board switches should be set to 7 & 8 on for one floppy. changing that to other settings doesn't seem to help. anyone out there know anything about these anchors. can a hard drive be added ( the bios date relative to a pc) indicates that the technoloyy was avaliable at the time. any help would be greatly appreciated.
