Sounds like the file type and creator are getting screwed up by telnet.
Zterm is VERY good at recognizing file type and creator and setting them 
accordingly, except for the annoying habit of dowloading binhex files as 
ZBIN binary instead of text.  Get a copy of the DA file master or anything
else that lets you set types and creators and that should help you fix your
problem....
