Summary: MMInit startup and finder icons gone! Keywords: icon, vanishing, egad Message-ID: <1991Apr11.120948.21542@news.nd.edu> Date: 11 Apr 91 12:09:48 GMT Article-I.D.: news.1991Apr11.120948.21542 Sender: news@news.nd.edu (USENET News System) Distribution: na Organization: University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame Lines: 36 To the net.mac.gurus: My Mac recently crashed (due to OnCue, I think). After I rebooted, I noticed that the icon displayed by the MMInit at boot time was just garbage (it used to look like a little chip speeding away :-) ). Also, the desktop icon for MMInit was just a plain document icon. I tried rebuilding the desktop file, but nothing changed. I then removed MMInit, and replaced it with a fresh copy, but no dice. Finally, I removed MMInit, rebuilt the desktop file, and re-installed MMInit, and still nothing! Oh yeah, I checked MMInit with Resedit, and its personal copies of its icons look ok. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone tell me (in as much detail as you care to) exactly where the finder gets the icons it displays for a given file? I'm assuming that they are somehow extracted from the init/cdev/application document when it is first installed, and the icons are stored in the desktop file, yes? Can I fix this by hand (with Resedit, for example)? Does the fact that the finder icon is missing bear any relation to the weirdness with the startup icon? Just how does the startup icon get displayed? Whew! I better stop or I'll end up with one big, run-on question :-) Thanx in advance for any help! --jon P.S. Please reply by e-mail, unless you think this is of sufficiently general interest.
