Summary: sendmail can find host.tamu.edu but not host Keywords: sendmail, DNS, network, host lookup Message-ID: <14336@helios.TAMU.EDU> Date: 8 Apr 91 14:12:54 GMT Sender: usenet@helios.TAMU.EDU Organization: Texas A&M University Lines: 26 One our machines here is having problems with sendmail not being able to find a host unless it is completely specified. Example of the problem: % mail me@jupiter this returns with "550 me@jupiter... Host unknown" Our system is a Sun 4/390, running SunOS 4.1.1. We are using sendmail.mx as our sendmail'er, and are using NIS with the "-b" option. Everything else (ping, telnet, etc) work find. My guess is that for some reason sendmail can't find the alias for jupiter.tamu.edu in the /etc/hosts file, or the yp database. Is there a way to "force" the NIS to include the aliases if it by default isn't? perplexed, Allan Bailey |Disclaimer: The views expressed herein are not fab9452@tamsun.tamu.edu|those of Texas A&M. void where prohibited, |some thinking required, your mileage may vary.
