   - Why _pre_beta ?

A couple of people volunteered to build the pre-beta snapshot with g++
and send us changes to incorporate in the beta release.  We put the
tar file there so that they could get the pre-beta snapshot.

   - When will beta be available ?

I don't know.  Probably soon.

   - Which changes will beta have to _pre_beta ?

Fixes to allow beta to compile better than pre-beta did.
