What gives? Message-ID: <1991Apr11.172406.27883@colorado.edu> Date: 11 Apr 91 17:24:06 GMT Sender: news@colorado.edu (The Daily Planet) Organization: University of Colorado, Boulder Lines: 27 Originator: fozzard@alumni.colorado.edu Nntp-Posting-Host: alumni.colorado.edu I've always been sort of annoyed that win3 doesn't update information in open file mgr windows, such as new or modified files. I admit to having been spoiled by high expectations coming from years of Mac use. But now that I am doing some development, it's getting intolerable and insidious. When I have files of the same name in different directories, sometimes win3 will confuse them, so that when I double click one, the application actually opens the other. And when I copy a file between windows, it sometimes grabs the deleted version of a file, not the new one. This is really poor. Win3 must be keeping pointers to physical disk locations for files in a window. That's really inexcusable in a multi- windowing, multi-tasking environment! While this may give some minor performance improvements, it make serious development a big hassle, full of time-wasting confirmations that I am really dealing with the file I think I am. Have others noticed these sorts of problems? And is there a fix for them? rich -- ======================================================================== Richard Fozzard "Serendipity empowers" Univ of Colorado/CIRES/NOAA R/E/FS 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80303 fozzard@boulder.colorado.edu (303)497-6011 or 444-3168
