Chris, I don't totally disagree with you, and as a matter of fact, was glad when I got my Soundingboard for the computer I use the most and increased the response time significantly, but have you ever run Vocal-Eyes or Flipper with the Dec? Seriously, both of them make the response time of the Dectalk much better than what I've seen in other speech programs, and although not instantaneous, the shut up key works fast enough when them on the Dec to make it bearable, at least by my standards. There is no doubt about it, if you're going to do a lot of key pounding, the Dec does have its drawbacks, but my ear still tells me it's the best thing out there if you're doing a lot of reading.
