The largest company HCL reported sharply reduced profits in the current financial year. Industry sources also expressed concern about low sales in the Jan-Mar quarter which is the normal peak period for purchases of capital goods like computers. The government is likely to close down Vayudoot because of heavy losses. However this decision will be taken after the new government comes to power. A new caprolactum plant was inagurated by the PM recently at Udyogmandal near Cochin. This is one of the largest chemical projects to be commissioned recently, and will substantially increase India's nylon production capacity. A new express train between Bombay VT and Varanasi will start running daily in a few days. Electrification of the Itarsi-Nagpur section will be completed by the end of April. This will complete the electrification of the Delhi-Madras trunk route. Electrification of the Itarsi-Bhusaval section will be completed in 1991-92, and Bina-Katni in 1992-93.
