Here is an addendum to my last post:

I've just re-installed news (it's version 2.11.19) and the same problem
has re-occurred. i.e. All the files are put into the new directory:

/usr/local/lib/news

But still the following files remain active in the old directory:

active, log, history.pag, history, history.dir, errlog
in /usr/new/lib/news

We use nntp to get news from our feeder site and to xmit to sites connected to
us, so I installed  news first, then install with NNTP defined.

Can you think of any suggestions?
