As my last posting implyed, I could use any pointers that are
offered to information about automatic gain control and 
automatic threshholding.  Discussion is also welcome.

Also, If I want to passband or high frequency filter a weak signal, 
do I auto gain amplify it -> filter it -> autogain amplify it again?
Can this process be simplified to use fewer opamps?  Are there any
analog types left out there?  Thanks again in advance.
