Speak for yourself. I'm a touch typist, and find h, j, k, and l quite natural (and more natural than u,d,l,r). As for being one character off home row, having to reach over to the "h" character occasionally is no big deal. In fact, it saves my pinky which already gets overused for hitting shift, "/" and return all the time. This is really a religious issue.
