Not to burst your bubble but by the time you get through parsing escape
sequences, pixel ops are so slow on the 4100 series terminals, why would
you want a gif viewer ?  There is a viewer called tekgif that runs on the
4300 series workstations using Picture Processor OP codes, that is acceptable,
however.
