I'm running PathWorks on a 6000-450 with VMS 5.4-1A with Macs connected via EtherTalk cards (running through Cisco routers for AppleTalk routing). We seem to keep crashing or hanging the VAXshare (AppleShare-like) server on the VAX when someone from a different zone tries to access a VAXshare volume. (I'm aware of the patch from DEC that involves large hard-disks, and I have applied this patch...but this seems to be a completely different problem) It seems that when someone in a zone different from the server's zone tries to select a file server from the chooser, the watch shows up and about 45 secs later you get a dialog box claiming that the server is not responding. (You never get to the point where you are asked to log in, or pick a volume). The server seems intact enough to advertise its existence, but unable to answer any requests. Has anybody seen this behavior before? What could I do to fix it, or at least gain a clue as to where else to look for problems? Thanks, -Dave Tilley dave@vms.sas.com
