A couple of months ago, there was a thread (in this very group, I think) about
slow screen updating.  As I recall, this was related to a customised version of
cres.o being linked in to an ls.  This caused spurious interrupts in their
multitudes to slow down the screen updates (and everything else, I presume).

Was there a workaround/patch/solution for this problem?
