Now MAGELLAN is the name > of (you guessed it) my HD. What kind of a hard disk do you have? I've seen a similar problem with my 20mb Sider (D2 model, I believe). Several times, I've been in the middle of something only to have a screen pop up and say "Please insert /HARDA," which is my boot-up hard drive. When I push the "try again" button, it will sometimes work, but other times it will overwrite a directory block (usually in /HARDA/SYSTEM) with the first /HARDA directory block...a rather nasty result that requires zeroing out the /HARDA directory and reloading. Now when I see the "Please insert" message, I reboot the system. Better to lose what I'm in the middle of doing rather than the whole partition! You may want to use the Finder's "Verify" (or is it "Validate"?; my GS is at home...) command on /MAGELLAN. That will tell you whether there is anything funny about your directory structure. If you have APDA's latest addition to the APW tools, use the utility included there to check your volume. It will tell you if there are any conflicts between blocks marked "in-use" and blocks actually used by files. -- Dave Tribby
