Message-ID: <3053@travis.csd.harris.com> Date: 16 Apr 91 13:08:12 GMT Sender: news@travis.csd.harris.com Followup-To: comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware Distribution: usa Organization: Harris Computer Systems, Ft. Lauderdale, FL Lines: 37 I just received a DAK catalog that advertises a Laser-Pro Silver Express printer for $699. Does anyone have experience with this PRODUCT? I've had no problems with DAK in the past.... Emulation Modes: HP LaserJet Plus, Epson FX, IBM Proprinter, Diablo 630, NEC Spinwriter, Qume Sprint II, Line Printer PLUS: Minus: $699 1 MB Ram 512K Upgrage (1.5M Total) $129 33 Fonts Only 4 are scalable Downloadable fonts Disc Space/Time to build 300dpi resolution The retailer is also offering $1,869 (retail) in "free" software with the purchase. The software is GEM Artline and Presentation Team. Now I know for a fact that this software has been discontinued by Digital Research and been replaced with a new revision. The old Artline is available locally for $295, and GEM Presentation Team for $149. I already own the new stuff so the software isn't an issue with me. My concern is that Laser-Pro discontinued this product because of some fundamental flaw (like it melts down at 7,823 copies) or something similar. My intended application is busniness correspondence/billing for a small business I run out of my home. I will also use the printer to print brochures for a charity I do work with. Overall about 200 copies/month. This weekend I will do some function/price shopping at SoftWarehouse and CompuAdd to see just how good this deal really might be. Unless I get several negative responses from the net, I'll probably buy this thing. This group gets about 100 posts/day so I would appreciate E-MAIL from those of you who elect to respond. --- Dan Aksel
