I need to be able to create the structure of the project tree from software
instead of the usual manual generation. This would be specified say as a 
list of links, like, 
   a - b
   a - c
   a - d
   b - f
   etc

Does anyone know how to do this, the importing in Macproject seems to allow
importing of all other aspects except for the tree structure itself. For
example does anyone know the file format of Macproject files?
