FrameMaker runs slow since it is only a 68000 based machine but it runs circles around FrameMaker on our Sun 3/50's which are 68020 based machines. I've tried running it on a Mac+ but it is just too slow (as is everything else on a plus) and the screen is too small. At least with the Portable, I get a full page width screen. I use it for documenting and also for code editing. I found that 2.2 Meg of memory assures me that I don't get any "out of memory" messages. Even though the Portable has no memory management unit, a crash is handled in a much nicer manner than on a Sun. I found a common defect between the platforms. On the Sun, it makes FrameMaker just disappears with all your unsaved work. On the Mac, a dialog comes up which allows you to save everything before the application quits. If you're running the same version number of FM on different platforms, the files may be transferred between environments without any problems (unless you are using local fonts). For me, FrameMaker is the only application I would use for documenting on a Mac (and I've tried a few). Version 3.0 is coming out which supports tables in a big way and conditional text. It is also supposed to be faster. Hope this helps, Rob
