Some of these machines will likely be Macintoshes and they have decided to use either Serial Line IP (SLIP) or the Point to Point Protocol (PPP). I have not been able to find any TCP/IP package for the Mac that uses either of these protocols (though my search has just begun :-) but I am aware that A/UX comes with a SLIP driver. However, I need something that will work under the Finder rather than from Unix.
