Actually, there was a mailing on the next-prog list looking for Beta testers.
The response was, shall we say, overwhelming.  Many responses included such
questions as "What does it do?" and "I'll maybe Beta test it if you tell me
more about it."  

Some people came to believe that Beta testing meant you got free software for
promising to make sure it will run on your machine.  In our case, we really
need Beta testers that know MicroPhone already and/or know telecommunications
inside and out.
