Message-ID: <1991Apr17.134323.1650@aucs.AcadiaU.ca> Date: 17 Apr 91 13:43:23 GMT Reply-To: peter@aucs.acadiau.ca (Peter Steele) Distribution: na Organization: School of Computer Science, Acadia Univ., Nova Scotia Lines: 11 I've just set up a Sun-SLC as our new mail/name server and have found that messages are not getting recorded in /var/log/syslog unless I define as alias "loghost" for this machine in my DNS tables. When I had my mail server on our Sun-4/280, I had no such entry defined for that machine. The only real difference is that the Sun-4/280 has NIS running, while I have not yet brought it up on the SLC. I've tried putting loghost as an entry in /etc/hosts but that does not work either. Does anyone have an idea why syslog is acting this way? -- Peter Steele Postmaster peter@auad.acadiau.ca Tel: 902-542-2201 Software Analyst, Acadia University, Wolfville, NS Fax: 902-542-7224
