  When I do a dump from cron, the dump doesn't seem to want to update the
  /etc/dumpdates file. Is there something less obvious than the mode of the 
  file (this is being done as root, root owns, and can write to the file.)?

  This is on a DS3100 running Ultrix 4.0.
