You have to have two controller cards in your computer to do it, and one of the cards must be configured as secondary. Usually the old MFM cards cannot run as secondary. The process is rather involved and depends greatly on the brand/model of contoller cards you have. If the IDE controller can be configured as secondary, then you would continue to boot off the MFM and swap to the IDE in your AUTOEXEC.
