If under Windows 3.0 (386 mode) I launch Word Perfect 5.1 using the
WP51 PIF file then I see no serious problems.

If however, I start a DOS session (with a DOS.PIF file) and later within
that session start WP 5.1 then Word Perfect MAY run extremely slow (several
minutes to bring up the editing screen).

Other relevant points:

Both PIF files DO NOT have "Detect Idle Time" enabled.

WP often runs fine within the DOS session. I've been unable to determine
what circumstances may cause a slowdown.

If when WP is running slowly you repeatedly press the SHIFT key (as an
example of an innocuous keystroke) WP will proceed a bit more rapidly.
