I have a problem with them also. A large handle would help me a little but if the mug has any significant weight I'm in trouble. Also if I go spasy with a cup in my hand with a handle I tend to not drop the cup but use it as a hammer to hit things with, mostly myself. What I found was great are these large plastic glasses with a top and a straw that goes through the middle of the lid. It is tall enough that I dont have to lift it and can drink easily, and if I knock it down I really don't have much of a mess. What is really nice about it also is that it fits nicely into a cup caddy I have on the arm of my chair and with a little tilt and turn I can grab a quick sip. I found mine at Sea World but I have seen alot of them all over at the malls and some of the sports stores. They even have them with sport team logos.
