There is a place called United Nations Disaster releif Organization
(UNDRO) that helps here as well as the High Commisoner on Regugees (the
Agah Khan) who helps war disabled through the UN. Amazing people.

You may ask about them and see if UNICEF (for the children) and
International Red Cross has any projects of "people to people exchanges".
