Or were your figures Imperial CPS? For a large text file, with V.42bis over straight V.32, we get 1.7kcps using PC-Route with serial ports locked at 19.2kb and Intel 9600EX modems. We believe that the limiting factor here is the serial port speed, as 1.7cps is about 19.2 minus (non-compressed) headers.
