I have a friend (no! really!) who badly needs to find the answers to
the questions:

   1. What is the format of an Adobe Font Metrics (.afm) file?
   2. What is the format of a Postscript Font Metrics (.pfm) file?
   3. Why do they both exist?  That is, what is the need for two
      file formats when one will do?

Please respond promptly, as time is of the essence.

Bonus question [:-)]:  What is "kern tracking"?
