Message-ID: <9104231655.AA11037@crayola.cs.UMD.EDU> Date: 19 Apr 91 15:54:46 GMT Sender: daemon@ucbvax.BERKELEY.EDU Organization: Marshall University Lines: 35 Approved: laser-lovers@brillig.umd.edu Has anyone tried to print to a non-DEC printer with a PostScript cartridge using the DECprint Printing Services. I don't know how DECprint is licensed, but I do know that it list a bunch of supported (DEC) printers. I was just wondering if anyone successfully managed to print a file to a non-dec printer using DECprint Printing Services V4.0. (Maybe DEC doesn't want us printing this way - I don't know - if so - someone please let me know this also.) I tried it on VMS V5.4 using DECprint Printing Services V4.0 and received this message on the operators console when I tried to print a job. %CPS-W-UNRECOGNIZEDPRI, Product name PacificPage not recognized. Assuming ScriptPrinter Obviously it recognized the name of the cartridge I had in the LaserJet. I also had it write messages to a file with /PARAMETER=(MESSAGE=KEEP) and it reported the following messages: 19-APR-1991 15:29 %LPS-W-UNDEF, undefined: Name not known - offending command is $printerdict 19-APR-1991 15:29 %LPS-E-FLUSHING, Rest of Job (to EOJ) will be ignored 19-APR-1991 15:29 %LPS-W-TYPCHK, typecheck: Argument of wrong type - offending command is checkpassword Also, is DEC moving towards support for non-DEC printers (just a little rumor I heard recently). -- Bob Boag BITNET: boag@marshall Senior Software Systems Analyst Internet: boag@marshall.wvnet.edu Marshall University Computer Center Phone: (304)696-2624 Huntington, WV 25755-5320 FAX: (304)696-3601
