I noticed this too when I tried to get my 370 talking to my 500.
I did notice that when I upped the nice value of vtdaemon, the problem
seemed to go away, i.e., try "/bin/nice --19 /etc/vtdaemon".  This is not
an official workaround, but just something I noticed.  Hope it helps you.
