The EISA card used on s700 uses differential SCSI, which would limit the selection of drives available. However, all three of the boxes have a builtin single-ended SCSI implemented. Standardization of SCSI is such that it's not possible to make blanket statements about whether other devices will work. The s800 machines have disk partitions hard-coded into the kernel, which I assume would present some problems. >We also need to know if we can boot from these drives. There are no specific lockouts to prevent this, but again it's not possible to make any guarantees. >C.Finger >PS: Do we need the scsi_info program recently posted here or does HP > provide the necessary tools for configuration? I'm not familiar with what you're asking here. Someone asked about the 'cs80describe' command, which was an earlier version of the 'diskinfo' command currently shipping with the systems. This provides information about both cs80 (HP-IB) and SCSI disk drives, but it's really just a convenience rather than a necessity for configuring disks. Someone else posted a disktab generator, but again, that's a convenience. Regards Dave Kinsell kinsell@hpfcmb.hp.com DISCLAIMER: If HP had an official spokesman for this stuff, I wouldn't be it.
