The 1123 is the 1124's replacement, or so I've heard. The 1124 is pretty fast, very good quality, but a little noisy. The manual is helpful, but if someone knows what they're doing, they can really mess you up! (another story). I don't know about the NEC. Recommendation: try them all out.
