I have 386 clone from ACT which I bought mail order more than a year ago. Recently, both of the floppy drives (high density 3.5", high density 5.25") have been destroying any unprotected disks that is inserted in them. By destroying, I mean any disk access will not only erase the data but will also leave the media unusable. However, the computer reads properly from write- protected disks. Also, read and write operations on the hard drive are done properly. I checked for viruses and found none. A friend of mine performed some diagnostics and found that the DMA page register number 2 was bad. A local branch of TRW has offered to fix my machine provided I have the necessary chips to replace the bad ones. I found that the major chips in the system board are from Chips and Technologies with numbers P82B305, P82C302, P82A304, P82A306, P82C301, P82A303, and P82C206. I would like to know which of these chips and any other chips will need to be replaced, what chips would be compatible replacements, and how I can order these replacements. Suggestions on how I should deal with this problem are also welcome. Thanks to all in advance. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEOREY O.
