Is your friend running under the Finder or MultiFinder?  Try running under 
MultiFinder, as the HP DeskWriter driver (A.02.00) has better memory 
management under MultiFinder.  Otherwise, you might was to have your friend
get a hold of version 2.1 of the HP DeskWriter driver.
