Whenever I compile a LaTeX document which uses overhead characters (like \hat or \tilde), the dvips program, as well as TeXView, place the overhead character in the middle of the word, rather than over it. This problem seems only to occur when I do not use the cmr fonts. E.g., if I use times.sty (or palatino, ncs, etc.) I get this problem. Is there a simple fix? times.sty is supposed to use cmr fonts for math, so there shouldn't be a problem because there isn't one when I use cmr fonts exclusively. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
