I am about to change out the tape drive with another one that is identical to the old one except it is 125M capacity (these tape units have AT&T part numbers but are actually Wangtek made). I would like to compare notes with someone who is using a 125M tape drive and Xenix 2.2. I think this should be a "plug and play" job and I have asked SCO and "almost" got a good answer. The key question hinges around an entry in /etc/default (and a related backup command in cron). The /etc/default/archive file contains this entry which I use from sysadmin for backups: cdev=/dev/rct0 desc="Cartrige Drive (600 ft tape)" \ blocking=20 size=600 density=20000 This works well with the 60M capacity drive and the backup program seems to properly calculate when the tape will be full. The question is: "What do I change to get backup to recoginze the higher capacity?". Do I simply change the density to 40000? The related cron command for daily backups is: /bin/backup 9sdf 600 20000 /dev/rct0 /dev/u and the same question applies. (change 20000 to 40000). Mail advice would be much appreciated. If there is sufficient interest, I will post a summary. -- ======================================================== Ken Abrams uunet!pallas!kabra437 Illinois Bell kabra437@athenanet.com Springfield (voice) 217-753-7965
