Wouldn't it be great if one of those rare individuals who wasn't motivated solely by personal and corporate greed was to create a full-service telephone company, hopefully providing long distance (and in some areas, where the LEC was especially lame, local service) at the lowest possible prices? It would charge just enough to hire all the necessary people, provide ample capacity and keep all of the equipment state-of-the-art. Perhaps a public stock offering could be made, and the big benefit would be that $1000 up front would get you five years of unlimited free long distance on your line or something. The amazing thing is that this could actually be done, and it would probably have fascinating effects, effectively bringing the whole country into your local calling area. Any comments?
