I can't find the article in my file cabinet but I remember reading an article
in IEEE Spectrum magizine (late 89 or early 90) that was loaded with arcane
mouse trivia. The issue had a large article on GUI and the information on the
mouse was a sub-topic. If I remember correctly, they decribed the history of
the mouse from a mechanical device to todays version. In addition, they briefly
discussed the studies that have taken place regarding the optimal number
of buttons on a mouse.
