Well, Wim, you're not the only one having these problems. I asked my university bookstore the same questions (how, when, where, how much) and they got back to me the next day, after calling IBM, and told me that IBM says they can sell the Extended Version with a student discount for $159 (or so) and that the Standard Version has been discontinued. I told the person at the campus computer store that I could buy it from Computerland for $150 (the normal version) and that there ought to be a 40% discount for students. He told me that was the best he could do. It could be that $150 - 40% makes the price so low that IBM isn't willing to sell it and thus isn't making the new, low price available to universities. This is pure speculation, but it's possible and it fits the data I've seen. It is true that you can get the SE for $150 or $100 with upgrade from DOS, but anyone can get that price.
