I think you don't have the gateway defined correctly.  That is the address of
the device that connects your segment to the outher ethernet(s) etc.  I'm not 
sure what level of AIX you have but mine originally (& wrongly) assumed MY 
address as the gateway.  If it wasn't on my segment it couldn't get to it.  Just
changed the gateway address and all was fine.
