To this an orifinating voice/data switch would want to do an ATD, if you have a modem that waits for dialtone before dialing then you will want to do an ATX1, which will force the modem to dial without waiting for dialtone. In ATD there is nothing to dial so it just waits for carrier. ATH0 has the effect of placing the phone on hook. It is most often used after a +++ which will place a Hayes or compatible modem back in command mode when online with a data call. ATH1 is used when you want the modem to go off hook, but not do anything else. ATH0 will return the modem to on-hook status. The ATO command is the reverse of "+++" after you are done issuing commands to the modem qand you wish to return to on-line mode (The modems will be sendiong and receiving data again) you use ATO. Think of "+++" and ATO as the on-line off-line toggle switch on a printer. When you do a "+++" after you have connected to another modem the modem will say "OK" and wait for your commands. ATO will place it back in regular data sharing mode. You will also get the regular CONNECT XXXX message that reminds you that the modem is back in data sharing mode. To have the modem dial use ATDT or ATDP t=tone p=palse followed by the number to dial. -- "To Study is to survive..." -Me (Now if I could only grasp that..)
